SMG is promoted by the Johari family (Mr. Prakash Johari & Mr. Vikas Johari), which has interests in Media, Technology, Hair & Beauty, Jewellery & Watches retail and Real Estate. The Johari brothers incubated MaXposure Media Group in 2006, and within seven years, built the company in to the largest custom publisher in Indian subcontinent and the fastest growing media company in India. In July 2011, the Johari family sold 78.25% stake to Gruner + Jahr GmbH & Co. KG (G+J) and Prakash Johari continues to holds 21.75% in the company. G+J is the largest European printing and publishing firm. Its headquarters is in Hamburg, Germany. G+J is a part of global media conglomerate Bertelsmann. SMG was incorporated on 23 August 2011 in India.
